Vertiport progress at DXB signals a new chapter for flying taxis

Vertiport progress at DXB signals a new chapter for flying taxis

Where the DXB vertiport stands now

Dubai’s first dedicated flying taxi vertiport beside Dubai International Airport has reached a key construction milestone, with around 60 per cent of the build now complete. The facility marks the shift from high level vision to real infrastructure on the ground as the emirate prepares for commercial air taxi services targeted for 2026.

Developed by Skyports Infrastructure in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, the DXB vertiport is designed as a compact but highly capable terminal. The structure will cover roughly 3,100 square metres across four levels, combining parking decks, take off and landing pads, charging systems for electric aircraft and fully enclosed passenger areas that match the airport’s premium feel.

Once operational, the hub is expected to handle tens of thousands of aircraft movements every year, serving well over one hundred thousand passengers who want to skip congestion and connect quickly from the airport to key areas of the city. The DXB site is also the anchor for a wider network of vertiports planned at Dubai Mall Zabeel parking, Atlantis The Royal on Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina near the American University in Dubai. Together these locations will form the first aerial taxi route map for the city.

How the DXB vertiport fits into Dubai mobility

The air taxi project is not a standalone gimmick. It is being built into Dubai’s existing transport ecosystem, which already includes DXB airport, the metro network and a large RTA taxi fleet. The vertiport sits close to Terminal 3 and is planned to integrate with road and rail links so that passengers can step from aircraft to onward ground transport with minimal friction.

Construction progress of the Vertiport at Dubai Airport DXB

Flight times underline the value of this new layer of mobility. The journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is expected to fall to around ten minutes by air taxi, compared with about three quarters of an hour in typical road traffic. Early corridors are set to connect DXB with destinations such as Dubai Marina, Downtown and the Palm, creating fast lanes in the sky for both residents and visitors.

The aircraft themselves, supplied by Joby Aviation, will be fully electric with multiple rotors, low noise profiles and capacity for a pilot plus four passengers. With top speeds in the region of 320 kilometres per hour and ranges around 160 kilometres, they are built for short urban hops rather than long haul journeys, which makes the positioning of vertiports close to major hubs like DXB even more important.

Why DXB vertiport progress matters for brands

A new premium gateway for high value travellers

For brands that already invest in Dubai, the DXB vertiport is another touchpoint with high spending, time sensitive travellers. Many early adopters of air taxis are likely to be business leaders, frequent flyers and luxury tourists who value speed and convenience. Their typical journeys will link DXB with hotels on Palm Jumeirah, upscale residential clusters in Dubai Marina and flagship retail at Dubai Mall.

This mirrors the catchment that many brands want to reach with taxi advertising in Dubai today. Airport arrivals, hotel districts and shopping destinations are already strong performing areas for wrapped taxis and digital screens. The vertiport does not replace these channels. Instead, it concentrates more of the right audience into tightly defined routes that can be supported by smart out of home planning on the ground.

Connecting flying taxis and RTA taxi advertising

When a passenger lands at DXB and heads to the vertiport, they will move through airport roads that are full of RTA taxis. When they land at Dubai Marina or Dubai Mall, they will still rely on road based modes for the last part of the journey, whether that is a standard taxi, an e-hailing trip or a hotel transfer vehicle. This creates multiple moments where taxi advertising can frame the experience.

Brands using full wrap taxi supersides or rear formats already enjoy strong visibility on DXB approach roads, at hotel forecourts and around key visitor hubs. By the time air taxis go live, those same branded vehicles can become familiar companions on the ground as passengers move between vertiports, hotels, malls and business districts. For advertisers, that means continuity of message that follows travellers from the plane to the city and back again.

Digital passenger screens inside taxis help to extend this impact. As people leave a vertiport and take a standard cab to their final stop, in-car video can reinforce brand stories that were introduced on airport approach roads or in terminal spaces. This is a natural fit for sectors such as hospitality, finance, luxury retail and entertainment that want to guide choice while the traveller is actively planning what to do next.

Planning ahead for 2026 and beyond

Construction progress at DXB is a useful signal for media planning cycles. With commercial operations targeted for 2026, brands running regional or global campaigns have time to build Dubai’s air taxi moment into their calendar. That might include launch bursts around the first commercial flights, sustained support during peak travel seasons or tactical activity aligned with major events and exhibitions in the city.

The important point is that the audience will not appear from nowhere. DXB is already one of the busiest international airports in the world, and RTA taxis move millions of passengers yearly between terminals, hotels and neighbourhoods. Taxi advertising that you book today will be speaking to the same global travellers who will soon be among the first to try Dubai’s flying taxis.

FAQs

1. What is the current status of the DXB flying taxi vertiport

Construction of the vertiport next to Dubai International Airport is around 60 per cent complete, with structural works having reached their highest point and fit out progressing.

2. When are flying taxi services expected to launch in Dubai

Commercial aerial taxi operations are targeted for 2026, following successful crewed test flights and regulatory approvals for the Dubai International Vertiport design.

3. Where will passengers be able to board flying taxis from DXB

The DXB vertiport will act as the main hub, with additional vertiports planned at Dubai Mall Zabeel parking, Atlantis The Royal on Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina near the American University in Dubai.

4. How does the DXB vertiport relate to taxi advertising in Dubai

Passengers using flying taxis will still rely on ground transport at each end of their trip. RTA taxis, already a core part of Dubai mobility, will continue to carry travellers between airport, vertiports, hotels and malls, making taxi wraps and passenger screens a powerful way to keep brands visible along the journey.

5. Can international brands plan campaigns around the DXB vertiport now

Yes. While the vertiport is still under construction, advertisers can already build presence on Dubai’s taxi network on routes serving DXB, Dubai Marina, Downtown and Palm Jumeirah, then extend or adapt campaigns as air taxi services go live from 2026.
